STARGAZER
Music about rhythms of life in the changing stars
by Dowland, Desprez, de Rore, da Milano, Zirler and others
In the 16th and 17th centuries, visionary astronomers such as Tycho Brahe, Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler changed humanity's view of the cosmos and its place in it forever with their groundbreaking discoveries.
We take our listeners back to a time when astronomy, astrology and theology were still intertwined and deeply rooted in people's beliefs, determining their daily and life rhythms. We describe three phases of the day – evening, night and morning – and play music that refers to the stars of each time of day, ultimately serving as a parable for the course of life.

“Poetically centred by the transverse flute, Barroso’s lute sings a warm-hearted melody, which is carried on by Nachtsheim’s caressing soprano in an exemplary manner, as in Zirler’s song ‘Die Sonn die ist verblichen’.”
